About Us

HIGHLAND BUDOKAN JUDO CLUB

Highland Budokan Judo Club was founded in 1993 by Sensei Robert Inglis. The Club is a non for profit organisation and a Registered Charity (SC040651). Originally HBJC was based at Inverness Sports Centre, but over the years it has spread and now trains in Inverness at Inverness Leisure Centre, Millburn Academy, Dingwall Sports Centre and Farr Hall.

HBJC has grown into a nationally respected Judo club both through its hard work in it's local communities and through the successful Judoka (Judo Players) it has produced. To date the Club has produced Scottish and British Champions, as well as Judoka who have represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Championships,  Great Britain at European Cups, World Cups and varying  A and B Competitions at Junior and Senior level.   Many players have also represented Scotland and Britain in various squad training camps throughout Europe.

The Highand Budokan Judo Club caters for competitive and non-competitive players who wish to be involved in off mat activities.  The club runs time keeping courses and table official courses for Judoka aged 12 years and over providing opportunities to officiate at the Club Championships up to top ranking events.  Members of our club volunteered at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, an experience of a life time.  We have members who have gone through their refereeing qualifications and officiated all over the UK.  The club also provides the opportunity for our youth and senior players to follow a pathway in line with Judo Scotland to participate in coaching courses and gain their coaching award.

The mission of the HBJC is to foster and develop the practice and spirit of Judo in the Highland Area. The club is a member of the British Judo Association and Judo Scotland.

Highland Budokan Judo Club aims to encourage its judoka to be self confident members of their communities, to be healthy, both mentally and physically and also to provide an inexpensive martial art to its members.
